Sports Facilities

Fields And Facilities

At Umhlali Preparatory School, we are fortunate to have 3 large sports fields, 2 swimming pools, netball and tennis courts, cricket nets and a functional fitness training hub.

The Paul Prokopiak and Cas Steyn fields are used for senior cricket, senior and junior rugby, hockey and athletics. These fields are overlooked by our sports pavilion, from which refreshments are served during matches. Our ‘home’ hockey matches are played at Curro Salt Rock.

The John Thabethe field is situated within the main school grounds and caters to junior cricket and hockey. The Junior swimming pool is adjacent to this. A multi-sport artificial turf is currently being planned, and this facility will be incorporated into the John Thabethe field.

The Astra Russell Aquatic Centre swimming pool is heated and is well-utilized throughout the year. Swimming training and school galas take place here as well as water polo. Our four netball and tennis courts are situated adjacent to the Astra Russell Aquatics Centre.

Functional Fitness Hub

The creation of the ‘Strive Hive’ was driven by the belief that we all have the potential to continuously strive to be the best versions of ourselves.

The ‘Strive Hive’, established in June 2023, is primarily aimed to simplify the school’s coaching structure. Its central objective is to enhance the concept of self-improvement. Led by an industry expert, The ‘Strive Hive’ is a multi-functional fitness centre focused on holistic health, strength and conditioning training.

The ‘Strive Hive’ welcomes all athletes, providing a secure environment where they can work towards achieving their individual goals. Here, we assess conditioning skills, prioritize injury prevention, and cultivate a supportive athlete community. Our ultimate goal in this ecosystem is to motivate, educate, and support athletes in their unique journeys, with inclusivity being a key component.
